Living Rock Church began as a planting of the LORD in 2002. For 16+ years we have traveled in “tents” as a portable church, renting space at Central Elementary School yet drawing together a Christ-centered family from a wide region surrounding Norwood Young America. Our prayer is that through this vision Living Rock Church will move into our first home, located on the beautiful 16-acre property (where our offices are located) just west of Norwood Young America, MN.
The vision of the PLANTED CAMPAIGN is that Living Rock Church will make a significant leap forward from a “planting church” in rented facilities, to a “planted church” – established and flourishing in our own ground. We are seeking the goal of a 70% participation rate in our body in pledging towards an $800,000 Base Goal over the three years. Anyone and everyone is invited to pray and pledge towards these God-sized goals (see pledging information below).
The pledging process is very flexible and non-binding (as circumstances change). No one will receive a “bill” and pledges will be kept confidential. Some families are able to pledge a one-time gift and others are pledging for one, two, or all three years. Participation, unity, joy, and God’s blessing are the real by-products of this vision in moving forward together.
The PLANTED CAMPAIGN is like a four-quarter football game with pledging and giving results tracked each year: Here’s the scorecard:
1st Q: December 2017 – 54 pledges. $576,470 pledged. $52,995 given.
2nd Q: December 2018 – 60 pledges. $600,620 pledged. $262,995 given.
3rd Q: June 2019 – 60 pledges. $600,620 pledged. $335,000 given.

What kind of initial facility would LRC build?
The least expensive traditional building would be rectangular. A larger entrance in Phase 1 is important to allow for two future additions (see graphic).
What is the building size?
Brunton Architects drew up a 14,400 sq. ft. Phase 1 floor plan based on the spaces we currently use at Central Elementary. We will keep the LRC office and storage space in the current buildings (Farmhouse, Lester Shed, Garage, etc).
What will the cost be?
Construction of a 14,400 sq. ft. building will vary in cost and materials ($150-$180+ per sq. ft. or in the 2.4 – 2.6 million range). We will do all we can to find the balance of quality and economy.
Will we take out a loan?
After studying our finances and consulting with the bank and builders, we believe that we should raise 1/3 of the project cost (or about 800k). This means we would need to finance 2/3 of the project.
Pledges allow us to stand and join together today in this vision. Pledging stretches us in faith and opens the way for God’s continued and future blessing for our body. Pledging is an indicator of a future timeline for final design and construction. Pledging also indicates to loan agencies our body’s willingness and ability to support this project (Note: no lending agency will receive individual pledge information). Pledges are not bills. Pledges will be reported to contributors for information only in the annual church giving statements.
What comes next?
- Lord willing we will experience a second and third year Campaign with strong and steady giving and praying!
- The leadership will trigger final building design when we get closer to our 800k goal and actually breaking ground.
- Short or long, we will endeavor to keep the PLANTED VISION alive and keep the invitation open to invest in God’s Kingdom work in our rural region. Lord-willing, we will one day reach our goals and be established in our first home together — flourishing for the glory of God. This project is not about a building. It’s about the lives being built and a faith legacy our church family and communities.
