The first day at a new church can be stressful, especially if you are the new pastor! My family sold our home in Fremont, NE and moved to NYA in record time. My first Sunday at Living Rock Church was Sept. 11, 2011. It was the 10th anniversary of 9-11.
When 9-11 happened, my family was in Lancaster, PA — just 100 miles from all three tragic sights. I recall the churches in our city having noon prayer meetings that week — not because pastors were planning them but because the people were gathering. We knew it was time to pray.
Since 9-11, I made it a personal goal to read and study the religion of Islam and understand their book (the Quran) and their man (Mohammed). Even when I was packing boxes in Nebraska, I remember listening to lectures on Islam and Christianity! It is critical to comparing “the book and the man” of Islam and Christianity in order to get the heart of the issues with clarity. This idea was the topic of my first sermon at LRC.
Below is a link to my first message at LRC on Sept. 11, 2011, “The Way of the Cross and The Way of the Sword
